This is so crazy! Just to think all this time we
thought we knew what we had just a few days shy of 5 months old. My oldest son
said "hey mom, 'Chill is a male (our duck) and told us the signs. Myself,
and the two youngest were shaking our heads in sarcastic disbelief. Debating
the whole time on how she's not. He gave us the signs of the beak and feet,
that don't have nothing to do with the gender and the tail is nowhere being curled
at the end. Lol! So one by one we go check out Chill and I was like okay who put
gel on the tail because it happened t be curled. That was not there yesterday
(we pay very close attention to our ducks). Addition to this which really
wasn't anything until now, Lizzy was sharing with me two days ago that Chill
feathers were turning gray. However, there's one sign of knowing that we had a
Mallard drake all this time but it never register to us when we were learning
about our ducks previously...we were just knowing that a curled feather at the
end of tail was the determining factor of a drake but now we know not in its entirely.
Our duck name Chill is a drake. i know this is weird for me to say because of
previous post about our two ducks but this bring an excitement to our home this
morning.
Duck 101
Drakes are male
Hens are female
Mallard ducks do fly
Indian Runners can run but cannot fly no more
than 2ft off the ground...we learned that the hard way. I knew I was cautious
of our Indian runner duck for some reason. :( Read more than you normally would
about any animal you keep as a pet.
